dragging brush uphill and carrying logs over to trucks, sweating, being bitten by mosquitos all for $8 bucks an hour. Summertime 6am to 9pm days with no overtime were the norm-and I thought I was banking it with this job!
I Left Home On Christmas Eve Determined To Make It Out To California.
After college, 9/11 struck and nobody was hiring. I worked building fences in Montana until I had barely enough money to get my tiny car out to San Diego where I started at a stockbrokerage firm in the mail room. I was laid off in three weeks time due to the financial services industry taking such a hit from 9/11. With only a few hundred dollars to my name, at wits end and through a “lucky” break from a friend, I became a deckhand on boats, working as a day laborer for $100 dollars a day plus lunch (a HUGE bonus to me back then!). I was lucky to get three or four days work in a week.
I Lived In A One Bedroom Apartment With Two Other People, Sleeping On The Floor.
No bed, no cushions. Finally, with less than $1,000 in savings from the boat jobs, I got my real estate license and began trying to sell real estate in one of the most competitive markets ever in Southern California. Being in sales really accelerated my thirst for Law Of Attraction knowledge and got me started. I noticed right off the bat that some of the most successful agents seemed to have a success mindset and even attracted money and opportunity at will seemingly without trying.
My Clients Could Tell I Was Living On The Verge Of Financial Ruin.
In another story, I had to tell people I injured my foot as I was walking funny to avoid having my bare sock touch the ground through the hole in my dress shoe. I couldn’t afford to buy new ones or even resole them! To boot I couldn’t even get a “real job” because no one was hiring in this economy!

I had been a real estate salesperson for 5 years, and in addition to watching the “The Secret”, over and over again, had tried everything, stuff like “The Power Of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale, where I would wake up and force a smile on the way to work every day, “Psycho-Cybernetics”, by Dr. Mawell Maltz, read “Think And Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, and even tried out a course I bought online with subliminal cd’s that you were supposed to listen to while you were sleeping to “magnetize” your mind for money attraction overnight.
